    How to connect ChatGPT to your revenu account

    Plug ChatGPT into your revenu account: the step by step guide

    The short version

    • In ChatGPT, on a computer, flick on Developer mode (one switch in Settings)
    • Add an app, name it revenu, paste one connection address, choose OAuth, click Create
    • Sign in with your revenu login, pick the account you want, approve it
    • Start a chat, pick revenu from the plus menu, and ask it something about your business

    Back in July I showed you how to plug Claude into your revenu account. If you read that and thought, great, but I use ChatGPT, this one is for you. As of this week the same secure connection works with ChatGPT. Not to chat about your business in the abstract, but to actually work in it: pull up contacts, check who has paid, move deals along your pipeline, draft the follow-up. You tell it what you want in plain English and it does the fiddly bits.

    The setup has one more step than the Claude one, because ChatGPT keeps custom connections behind a switch called Developer mode. It sounds like something for programmers. It is not. It is one toggle, and then the rest is the same as connecting any app: name it, paste an address, sign in, pick your account. I have put a copy button next to every value you need, so there is nothing to type and nothing to get wrong.

    Already connected Claude? Three things are different here
    • There is a switch to flick first. Developer mode, once, in ChatGPT's settings. Claude did not need one.
    • You pick the app at the start of a chat. In ChatGPT you choose revenu from the plus menu when you start a conversation, or name it in your message. Claude just knew.
    • Computer only, for now. ChatGPT runs custom apps on the web version at chatgpt.com. It does not show in the phone app yet.

    Tick these off as you go. If you can tick all four, the rest is easy.

    Checklist
    One thing before you start. ChatGPT moves its menus around fairly often, so if a label below is worded slightly differently on your screen, look for the same words nearby. The steps and the address you paste do not change. And if you are on a Business or Enterprise workspace, jump to the note under step 2 before you begin, because an admin does the first two steps for you.

    Step 1: turn on Developer mode 1 min

    This is the switch that lets ChatGPT connect to tools outside of itself. You only do this once, and nothing else about ChatGPT changes when it is on.

    1. On a computer, open chatgpt.com and sign in.
    2. Click your name or profile picture, then Settings.
    3. Open Security and login and switch on Developer mode.
    4. Not there? Look under Apps, then Advanced settings. Same switch, older location.

    Step 2: add revenu as an app 3 min

    Now you tell ChatGPT where your account lives. Name it, paste one address, done. Use the copy buttons so nothing gets mistyped.

    1. Go to chatgpt.com/plugins (or Settings, then Plugins).
    2. Click the plus button to create a new app.
    3. Fill in the form with the values below. Copy and paste each one.

    1. Click Create. If ChatGPT shows a Scan tools button first, click that, let it finish, then click Create.

    Five fields, then Create. That is the whole form.

    On a Business, Enterprise or Edu workspace? Only a workspace admin can turn on Developer mode and create the app, and they do it from the workspace settings under Apps, then Create, using exactly the values above. They may also need to press Publish once it is tested. Then you carry on from step 3. Send these steps to your admin (it opens a ready-written email you can just hit send on).

    Step 3: sign in and pick your account 3 min

    This is the bit that makes it yours. ChatGPT sends you to a sign-in page, you sign in with your revenu login, and you choose which account it is allowed to work in.

    1. A sign-in page opens. Sign in with your revenu login. If it asks you to install the app first, click install.
    2. Choose the permissions you want ChatGPT to have. If you are not sure, allow them all for now. ChatGPT asks you before it changes anything anyway, and you can disconnect at any time.
    3. Choose the account you want it to work in, then click Authorise.
    4. You land back in ChatGPT and revenu shows in your list of apps. It may have a small Dev label next to it. That is normal.

    One connection covers one account. If you run more than one, connect each separately (see the notes further down).

    Step 4: check it is working 2 min

    Last step, and the satisfying one. Start a fresh chat and give it a simple job so you can see the connection is live. This is the one habit that is different from Claude: in ChatGPT you tell it which app to use when you start a chat.

    1. Open a new chat.
    2. Click the plus button in the message box, choose Developer mode, and tick revenu. Or just say it in the message: "Use the revenu app to…"
    3. Ask it the line below. Copy button, as always.
    4. If it lists your pipelines back to you, you are connected and ready to go.

    Tick revenu, type the test line, send. It will say something like "you have three pipelines" and name them.

    When you ask it to change something, add a tag, move a deal, send a message, ChatGPT shows you exactly what it is about to do and asks you to approve it. You can approve one at a time, or tell it to stop asking for the rest of that conversation once you trust it. A new conversation asks again. Reading things, like listing contacts or checking bookings, does not need approval.

    Now put it to work

    This is where it earns its keep. Start with the reading jobs, because they are useful on day one and they cannot break anything. Copy any of these straight in.

    Find the moneyUsing my revenu account, which of this week's bookings have not paid a deposit? Draft a reminder text for each one and show me before you send anything.
    Who has gone quietUsing my revenu account, list every open lead nobody has messaged in the last 14 days, oldest first, with their last message.
    Tidy the pipelineUsing my revenu account, show me every deal that has not moved in 30 days. Then tag them "needs a nudge", but list them and ask me first.
    Draft the follow-upsUsing my revenu account, pull my ten oldest open leads and draft a friendly follow-up text for each in my tone. Show me the drafts. Do not send.
    A straight answerUsing my revenu account, how many new contacts came in last week, and where did they come from?
    Prep the weekUsing my revenu account, what appointments do I have this week, and which of those people have I not spoken to in the last month?
    The Monday reportUsing my revenu account, give me a short Monday summary: new leads last week, bookings this week, deals won, and anything sitting unpaid.
    You are always in control. You choose which account to connect during sign-in, ChatGPT asks before it changes anything, and you can disconnect it at any time from ChatGPT's Settings, under Apps. A good early habit: ask it to show you things before you let it change anything. "Show me the drafts first" and "list them, do not send" keep you in the driver's seat while you build trust in it.

    If something goes wrong

    Six snags cover nearly everything. Find yours.

    I cannot find Developer mode anywhere

    Two likely reasons. You are on the free plan, which cannot add custom apps, so check your plan under your name. Or you are in a Business or Enterprise workspace, where only an admin can switch it on. The "send these steps to your admin" link under step 2 sorts that.

    The plus button will not let me create an app

    Developer mode is not on yet. Go back to step 1. The plus button only creates custom apps once the switch is on, and you may need to refresh the page after flicking it.

    I created it, but it does not show up in my chat

    Three checks. Are you on the web version at chatgpt.com? Custom apps do not show in the phone app. Did you pick Developer mode from the plus menu and tick revenu? It is chosen per chat, not once for all time. And if it is still missing, refresh the page. ChatGPT has been known to hide a freshly made app until you do.

    The sign-in page says I am not allowed, or I cannot see my account

    Your revenu login needs admin access to the account you are connecting. If someone else set the account up, ask them to make you an admin, or reply to the email and I will sort it.

    It can read my account but it will not change anything

    That is your ChatGPT plan, not a fault. Depending on the plan, ChatGPT may allow custom apps to read but not write. Reading is the useful eighty percent: who has not paid, who has gone quiet, what came in this week. If you need it to make changes as well, the Business plan is the one that clearly allows it.

    It worked last week and now it does not

    The sign-in has expired. Open Settings, then Apps, find revenu and connect it again. Same sign-in page, two minutes. If you connected the wrong account, disconnect it there and run step 3 again.

    A few things worth knowing

    • Computer only, for now. ChatGPT only runs custom apps on the web version. Set it up and use it at chatgpt.com.
    • One connection, one account. The connection is tied to the account you pick at sign-in. If you have more than one revenu account, connect each one separately and give each app a different name, like revenu and revenu clinic.
    • Reading is free of prompts, changing is not. Listing and looking things up just happens. Anything that alters your account asks for a yes first.
    • Already using Claude? Keep it. Both connections can run side by side, and neither knows about the other.
    • What it can reach. Contacts and tags, conversations and messages, calendars and bookings, pipelines and deals, payments, forms and custom fields. Ask it "what can you see in my revenu account" and it will tell you.

    FAQs

    Is it safe to connect ChatGPT to my account?

    Yes. You sign in and authorise the connection yourself, it runs over a secure connection, ChatGPT asks before it changes anything, and you can disconnect it at any time from ChatGPT's app settings. A good early habit is to ask it to show you things before you let it change anything.

    Do I need a key or any code?

    No. You flick one switch, give the app a name, paste one connection address, and sign in. There is no key to copy and no code. About ten minutes.

    Which ChatGPT plan do I need?

    A paid one. ChatGPT lists Plus, Pro, Business, Enterprise and Edu as the plans that can add a custom app, and the free plan cannot. Depending on your plan, ChatGPT may let it read your account but not change things, and reading is the useful part anyway.

    What can ChatGPT actually do once it is connected?

    Read and update contacts and tags, search opportunities and move them between pipeline stages, read conversations and draft or send messages, look up bookings and payments, and help you draft and build. All in plain English, and it asks you first before it changes anything.

    Will this cost me anything?

    Nothing extra on the revenu side. You just need a paid ChatGPT plan, which most people using ChatGPT for work already have.

    Can I have Claude and ChatGPT both connected?

    Yes. The two connections are separate and neither knows about the other. Keep the Claude one if you use it and add this one alongside it.

    What if I get stuck?
