HubSpot vs revenu: CRM platform or built-for-you small business system?

8 July 2026 · by Adam Pilakis, founder of revenu

HubSpot vs revenu comparison: an overflowing toolbox of parts beside a compact connected machine already running

    Quick summary

Choose HubSpot if you have the time, or the team, to configure a genuinely powerful customer platform yourself, and your budget survives the jump past the cheap tiers. Choose revenu if you want the follow-up system designed, built and maintained with you, without becoming your own CRM administrator.

    • HubSpot is a customer platform: marketing, sales, service and CRM software in one place, and the free CRM is genuinely good
    • revenu is a full business system: CRM, bookings, AI receptionist, missed call capture, follow-up, reviews and reactivation, built into your business
    • HubSpot's cheap tiers are cheap. The features growing businesses actually need sit above a steep price cliff, plus onboarding fees, and you still build it yourself
    • revenu is a flat $599 + GST a month in AUD, and the build is done with you, live after the first session
    • Fair warning: with a dedicated marketer on staff, HubSpot can be excellent. This article covers when that's you

Your business might not need more software. It might need fewer leaks.

If you're comparing HubSpot and revenu, you're probably a small business owner who's heard HubSpot is the gold standard, opened the pricing page, and come away with more questions than answers. Seats, hubs, tiers, contacts, credits. This is the plain-English version of that comparison, including the parts where HubSpot genuinely deserves its reputation.

    What HubSpot does well

Let's be straight: HubSpot is one of the best software products in the world at what it does. It positions itself as a customer platform, with marketing, sales, service and CRM in one place, and it earns that. The free CRM is genuinely free and genuinely useful: contacts, companies, deals and email tracking with no time limit. The Starter tier is honest value for small teams getting organised.

The ecosystem around it is world class too. HubSpot Academy is arguably the best free marketing education anywhere, the documentation is excellent, and the integration marketplace connects to nearly everything. And above the cheap tiers, the product itself is superb: full marketing automation, omni-channel campaigns, custom reporting and AI agents that serious revenue teams build entire operations on.

If you have a dedicated marketer, or you are one, and marketing is your growth engine, HubSpot can absolutely be worth it. No argument from me.

    03 The honest limits

Where HubSpot may not be enough

The problem isn't the software. It's the shape of the pricing, and the job it quietly hands you.

Start with the cliff. As at July 2026, HubSpot's Starter tier lists at around $20 USD a seat a month, often promoted lower. But the features growing businesses eventually need, real automation, custom reporting, proper campaigns, live above a steep jump: Marketing Hub Professional lists at around $890 USD a month including three seats, plus a mandatory one-time onboarding fee of around $3,000 USD. Sales Hub Professional runs around $100 USD a seat with its own onboarding fee. A small team can go from a few hundred dollars a year to five figures the moment they outgrow Starter.

Then the meters. Seats bill per person. Marketing contacts bill by volume, and overage blocks cost extra. AI features run on credits with monthly allowances and paid top-ups. None of it is hidden, but seats, contacts, tiers and credits all billing at once makes the real monthly number hard to predict until it arrives.

And the quiet part: HubSpot is a platform, not a finished system. Someone still has to design the pipelines, build the workflows, write the sequences, connect the phones and maintain all of it as the business changes. That's a real job. Bigger companies hire for it or pay an implementation partner. For a small Australian service business, that job usually lands on the owner, at 9pm, after quoting all day.

None of that makes HubSpot a bad choice. It's the edge of the category. HubSpot sells world-class software. It doesn't turn up and build your follow-up system for you.

    04 The other side

    Where revenu is different

revenu isn't trying to out-platform HubSpot. It's a different bet: instead of selling you the toolbox, I turn up and build the thing, with you, around how your business already works.

One login covers the whole connected stack: enquiry capture, missed call text-back, an AI employee answering calls and messages in seconds, CRM and pipeline, bookings and payments, SMS and email follow-up, database reactivation, review requests, your website and funnels, and reporting. The framework behind the build is the rhythm: plug the holes first, then turn the tap on.

The build is the product. You're live after the first 45-minute session, fully built over three sessions inside 14 days, and the build itself, valued at $3,000 to $5,000, is included. After that, support and a monthly showcase call are part of the price. There's no admin role to hire for, because the admin is me.

    The one-line version

HubSpot sells you the platform. revenu builds you the system.

revenu wins when you don't want to become the HubSpot admin

Picture a four-person service business doing $900k a year. An enquiry comes in while everyone's on the tools. On a CRM platform, that enquiry waits for someone to log in, if the workflows ever got built. On revenu, the missed call gets a text within seconds, the AI employee qualifies the lead and books the job, and the owner sees it done at knock-off. Nobody configured anything that night. That's the difference a built system makes.

    05 The money

HubSpot pricing vs revenu pricing in Australia

HubSpot, as listed on its pricing pages at July 2026 in USD: the CRM is free, Starter runs around $20 a seat a month (with promotions often lower for the first year), and the Professional tiers are the cliff, around $890 a month for Marketing Hub Professional with three seats plus roughly $3,000 in mandatory onboarding, or around $100 a seat for Sales Hub Professional. The full Professional Customer Platform bundle lists around $1,300 a month. Marketing contacts and AI credits meter separately on top. Check HubSpot's pricing page for current rates and Australian billing, because promotions and tiers change often.

revenu is $599 + GST a month, flat, in Australian dollars, plus a $500 build fee up front (waived when a current client refers you). That includes the full build, an AI employee trained on how you work, your website or funnel, ongoing support and the monthly showcase call. Month to month, no lock-ins. Usage costs apply for calls, SMS, email and AI activity, with live usage pricing in AUD here, and there's an unlimited AI option to keep AI costs predictable.

The honest maths: HubSpot Starter is cheaper than revenu. HubSpot Professional, with onboarding, seats and someone's time to actually build and run it, usually isn't. Compare the full cost of the platform plus the person who runs it against one flat system that arrives built.

    06 The decision

Choose HubSpot if, choose revenu if

Choose HubSpot if: you have a marketer on staff or you genuinely enjoy building systems yourself, email and pipeline are the heart of how you sell, your budget can clear the Professional cliff when the time comes, and you want the deepest ecosystem in the CRM world.

Choose revenu if: you're a small Australian service business, the phone and the follow-up are where money leaks, nobody on the team wants to own a platform, and you'd rather one flat AUD price for a system that turns up already built, with the builder on call.

    07 Final verdict

    The verdict

If you need a CRM platform and you have the person to run it, choose HubSpot. It's brilliant software with the best free tier in the game, and I'd rather tell you that than pretend otherwise.

If what you actually need is the outcome, every enquiry captured, every missed call answered, every lead followed up, every old client reactivated, then buying a platform just moves the problem. Someone still has to build the system. That someone is the whole point of revenu. And if your business runs on appointments rather than pipelines, the Timely and Fresha comparisons cover the booking software side of the same decision. At the budget end of the aisle, the Zoho CRM vs revenu comparison covers the same choice. And at the enterprise end, the Salesforce vs revenu comparison settles the fit question.

    08 FAQs

    HubSpot vs revenu FAQs

    Is HubSpot free?

The core CRM is genuinely free, with contacts, deals, email tracking and basic tools, and it's good. The costs start when you need real automation, branding removal or more contacts. The powerful features sit in Professional tiers, which as at July 2026 list from around $890 USD a month for Marketing Hub plus a mandatory onboarding fee.

Is HubSpot good for small business in Australia?

The free and Starter tiers are good value for getting organised. The catch for small Australian businesses is the jump to Professional pricing when you need proper automation, plus the reality that someone on your team has to configure and maintain the platform. HubSpot suits small businesses with a marketer; it's heavier going for owner-operators.

How much does HubSpot cost in Australia?

As listed at July 2026 in USD: free CRM, Starter around $20 a seat a month, Marketing Hub Professional around $890 a month with three seats plus roughly $3,000 onboarding, and the full Professional Customer Platform around $1,300 a month. Seats, marketing contacts and AI credits bill separately. Check HubSpot's pricing page for current Australian rates.

Is revenu more expensive than HubSpot?

Against HubSpot's free or Starter tiers, yes. Against HubSpot Professional, usually not: once you add onboarding fees, extra seats and the time someone spends building and running the platform, revenu's flat $599 + GST a month in AUD, with the build done for you, is often the cheaper total cost.

    Does revenu replace HubSpot?

For most small service businesses, yes. revenu covers CRM, pipeline, email and SMS follow-up, bookings, payments, reviews and reactivation in one login, plus the pieces HubSpot doesn't lead with, like missed call text-back and an AI employee answering the phone. We map your current setup before moving anything.

    Can revenu work with HubSpot?

Yes. Some businesses keep HubSpot as the sales team's CRM and use revenu for the front door: capturing enquiries, answering missed calls with AI, running follow-up and reactivation, and passing qualified leads across. We design the flow together so data lands where your team already works.

Do I need a CRM or a business automation system?

A CRM records what happened: contacts, deals, notes. A business automation system makes things happen: answering missed calls, replying to enquiries in seconds, chasing quotes, requesting reviews, waking up old clients. If your problem is visibility, a CRM helps. If your problem is leads leaking before anyone acts, you need the system.

    Book a leak check

Not a demo, and not a pitch. We'll look at where your enquiries come from, where follow-up falls over, what tools you're using now, and whether revenu actually makes sense. If HubSpot's free CRM is genuinely all you need, I'll tell you that too.
