ActiveCampaign vs revenu comparison: an intricate flowchart floating unanchored beside the same flowchart bolted into a frame connected to a phone and calendar

    Quick summary

Choose ActiveCampaign if sophisticated email and marketing automation is the core job and you'll design the journeys yourself. Choose revenu if the business needs phone, SMS, CRM, AI, bookings, reviews and your website running as one operating system, built with you rather than assembled from add-ons.

    • ActiveCampaign has one of the best automation builders in the game: branching logic, conditional content and journeys serious marketers rate highly
    • revenu is a full business system: AI receptionist, missed call text-back, CRM, bookings, follow-up, reviews, reactivation and your website, built into your business
    • ActiveCampaign sells the rest by the module: CRM pipelines, SMS, custom reporting and transactional email are all paid add-ons on top of contact-based tiers
    • revenu is a flat $599 + GST a month in AUD, everything in one login, with the build done for you
    • Fair warning: for a marketing team that lives in journeys and segments, ActiveCampaign is a serious platform. This article says exactly when

Your business might not need more software. It might need fewer leaks.

ActiveCampaign has a brilliant engine. That's not in dispute, and this article won't pretend otherwise. The real question is what's bolted around the engine, who's driving it, and what the whole vehicle costs once every module is on the invoice. That's where this comparison actually gets decided.

    What ActiveCampaign does well

ActiveCampaign's automation builder is genuinely one of the best in the world. Branching logic, conditional content, behavioural triggers, predictive sending on the higher tiers, and journeys that can get as sophisticated as any marketer can imagine. It calls itself the most positively-reviewed marketing automation platform going, and inside its lane, the praise holds up.

The commercial side has real bright spots too. There are no setup fees, onboarding sessions and data migration come free, annual billing takes 20% off, non-profits get another 20%, and the integration library runs deep, more than 900 tools. For a business whose growth genuinely runs on email journeys, a course creator, a coach, a marketing-led B2B team, ActiveCampaign is a proper professional instrument.

If that's you, and you have the person to play it, it earns a spot on your shortlist.

    03 The honest limits

Where ActiveCampaign may not be enough

Start with how the bill assembles, because the headline is doing a lot of work. As at July 2026, plans start at $15 USD a month for 1,000 contacts on annual billing, but that Starter tier caps automations at five actions per workflow with no branching, which pushes anyone doing real automation up to Plus ($49) or Pro ($79) fast. Then the contact tiers bite: Plus at 10,000 contacts runs around $239 a month; Pro reaches roughly $969 by 50,000.

Then the modules. The CRM pipelines that most businesses assume are included are a paid add-on. SMS is an add-on on Plus and above, on credits that expire monthly with no rollover. Custom reporting is an add-on. Transactional email is an add-on. Extra seats bill per user beyond the one or three included. None of it is hidden, but the machine is sold in parts, and third-party analyses note entry-tier prices have risen sharply since 2021. Cross your contact limit without auto-upgrade on and sending simply stops.

And the familiar category limit: the journeys only run on contacts already in the system. The call that rings out at 11am, the DM at 9pm, the enquiry that needed an answer in seconds, no email journey fires for those, because there's no AI answering anything and no AU phone front door. Someone also has to design, test and maintain every journey as the business changes, and that someone is you.

None of that makes ActiveCampaign overpriced for what it is. It's a professional marketing instrument, sold by the module, played by your team.

    04 The other side

    Where revenu is different

revenu doesn't sell modules, and it doesn't hand you a builder. It's one system, already assembled, wired around how your business runs.

One login covers the whole connected stack: enquiry capture from your website and socials, missed call text-back within seconds, an AI employee answering calls and messages in your tone, CRM and pipeline (included, not an add-on), bookings and payments, SMS from an AU number and email follow-up, database reactivation, review requests, your website and funnels, and reporting. The framework behind the build is the rhythm: plug the holes first, then turn the tap on.

And the journey designer is included too. I build the system with you: live after the first 45-minute session, fully built over three sessions inside 14 days, with the build valued at $3,000 to $5,000 included, then support and a monthly showcase call as part of the price.

    The one-line version

ActiveCampaign sells automation by the module. revenu delivers the business, automated.

one invoice line. one login. one bloke on call.

Add up the honest shopping list for a small service business wanting what revenu does out of the box: a Plus plan for the automation, the pipelines add-on for the CRM, the SMS add-on with its expiring credits, maybe custom reporting, plus the hours someone spends designing and maintaining the journeys. Each piece is reasonably priced. The assembled machine isn't cheap, and it still can't answer the phone. That's the comparison, module by module against one built system.

    05 The money

ActiveCampaign pricing vs revenu pricing in Australia

ActiveCampaign, as listed at July 2026 in USD on annual billing: Starter from $15 a month at 1,000 contacts (five-action automation cap), Plus from $49, Pro from $79 and Enterprise from $145, all scaling with contact tiers, so Plus at 10,000 contacts runs around $239 a month. Add-ons bill on top: CRM pipelines, SMS credits that expire monthly, custom reporting, transactional email and extra seats. No free plan, 14-day trial, no setup fees, free migration. Check ActiveCampaign's pricing page for current tiers, and price the modules you'd actually need, not the headline.

revenu is $599 + GST a month, flat, in Australian dollars, plus a $500 build fee up front (waived when a current client refers you). That includes the full build, an AI employee trained on how you work, your website or funnel, ongoing support and the monthly showcase call. Month to month, no lock-ins. Usage costs apply for calls, SMS, email and AI activity, with live usage pricing in AUD here, and there's an unlimited AI option to keep AI costs predictable.

Priced module for module at real contact counts, the gap narrows fast, and revenu's number includes the two things no ActiveCampaign invoice can carry: an AI employee answering your Australian phone, and the person who built the system staying in the room.

    06 The decision

Choose ActiveCampaign if, choose revenu if

Choose ActiveCampaign if: marketing automation is genuinely the core of how you grow, you have a marketer who lives in journey builders, your leads arrive by email and forms rather than phone, and you're comfortable assembling the CRM, SMS and reporting modules yourself.

Choose revenu if: you're an Australian service business, the phone and DMs are where enquiries live, nobody has hours for journey design and module management, and you want the automation, CRM, AI answering, bookings and reviews arriving as one built system at one flat AUD price.

    07 Final verdict

    The verdict

If you need a marketing automation platform and you have the marketer to run it, choose ActiveCampaign. The builder is world class and the onboarding is generous.

If what you actually need is the business automated, calls answered, enquiries chased, bookings landing, reviews flowing, then buying the engine in modules still leaves you building the vehicle. That assembled, driven, supported vehicle is exactly what revenu delivers. Comparing simpler email tools? 08 FAQs

    ActiveCampaign vs revenu FAQs

    Is ActiveCampaign free?

No. ActiveCampaign has no free plan, just a 14-day trial capped at 100 contacts and 100 emails. Paid plans start at $15 USD a month for 1,000 contacts on annual billing, though the Starter tier's five-action automation cap means most businesses doing real automation land on Plus or Pro at $49 to $79 and up.

How much does ActiveCampaign really cost?

More than the headline. As at July 2026, the tiers scale with contacts, so Plus runs around $239 USD a month at 10,000 contacts, and the add-ons stack: CRM pipelines, SMS credits that expire monthly, custom reporting, transactional email and extra seats each bill separately. Price your real contact count plus the modules you'd use.

    Is ActiveCampaign a CRM?

Only if you pay extra for it. ActiveCampaign's sales pipelines and deal management live in a paid enhanced CRM add-on rather than the base email plans. It's capable once added, but businesses assuming a CRM is included get a surprise on the invoice. In revenu, the CRM and pipeline are part of the one login.

    Is ActiveCampaign better than revenu?

Different jobs. ActiveCampaign has the deeper marketing automation builder, and for journey-driven, email-first businesses with a marketer, it's excellent. revenu is a full business system: AI answering your AU phone, missed call text-back, CRM, bookings, reviews and reactivation, built with you. Pick by where your enquiries actually arrive.

What is the best ActiveCampaign alternative in Australia?

Depends on the job. For simpler newsletters, Mailchimp; for ecommerce, Klaviyo. But if the reason you're shopping is that the modules stacked up and the phone still rings out, the alternative isn't another email platform, it's a connected business system like revenu, flat-priced in AUD with the build and support included.

    Does revenu replace ActiveCampaign?

Yes, for most service businesses. revenu covers the email and SMS automation, CRM, pipelines, forms and landing pages in one login, and adds what ActiveCampaign doesn't sell at any tier: an AI employee answering calls and messages, missed call text-back and an AU phone front door. We map your journeys before migrating anything.

Not a demo, and not a pitch. We'll look at where your enquiries come from, what your current stack really costs module by module, where follow-up falls over, and whether revenu makes sense. If ActiveCampaign's builder is genuinely your growth engine, I'll tell you that too.
